Professional Development

We have aligned teacher support and professional development to the Alliance TCRP Framework for Effective Teaching .

The purpose of teacher supports is to advance teachers in their profession. Supports will be reflective, practical, job integrated and collaborative.  They will be individualized by grade level, subject matter, and teacher’s needs. The guiding principles for TCRP teacher support are as follows:

Reflective

Effective teacher supports provide the opportunity for teachers to collaborate, discuss, and reflect to solve problems and support each other to improve their teaching.

Integrated

Effective teacher supports are job embedded and integrated into the daily activities of a teacher; sufficient time and follow up support must be provided for teachers to apply new learning in their classroom, receive feedback, and support in order to constantly improve their practice.

Practical

Effective teacher supports will train teachers with practical solutions to address the diverse and challenging needs of our students.

Proven

Effective teacher supports will be driven by quantitative and qualitative data which will be used to select and evaluate supports linked directly to increased student achievement and improved teacher performance.

The priorities of our professional development strategies will be:

  1. Teacher leadership pipeline

  2. Collaborative protocols

  3. Intranet to facilitate resource exchange and online collaboration

  4. Differentiated PD based on teacher growth plans

  5. School PD priorities to teacher and student performance data
